IMPACT OF THE MATRILINEAL SYSTEM ON INHERITANCE CONFLICTS IN THE KONGO COMMUNITY IN LUANDA (CASE: MARRIAGES AND DEATHS)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work, focusing on the specific context of Luanda, Angola, analyzes the impact of the Kongo people's matrilineal system on various conflicts arising from marriages and the division of inheritances after the death of a loved one. Simultaneously, it considers ancestral traditions that often conflict with the constitutional law of current society. Therefore, the issue of inheritance requires dialogue between families who must understand both traditions and the constitution to establish balance in conflicts. The study of the Kongo matrilineal system reveals that, in their culture, women have a genuine succession of family and clan members. Thus, matters of sociopolitical inheritance, like any material and spiritual good, pass from uncle to nephew, the sister's son. This practice has been a source of numerous family conflicts within the Kongo community in Luanda, highlighting the need for dialogue between constitutional and traditional power structures. Since the family is the foundation of any society, we have seen that the Kongo matrilineal system requires special attention and study, both in the area of religion and in the construction of the family lineage.
