NJILA YA KALUNGA: O MUNDO ATLÂNTICO, NJINGA, WESLEY E TAYLOR E A FORMAÇÃO DO KWANZA METODISTA [Resumo de Tese de Doutoramento apresentada e defendida no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Religião e Teologia da Universidade Metodista de Angolo em 2025]

Resumo
Este trabalho investiga a emergência e desenvolvimento da narrativa metodista em Angola, particularmente no corredor fluvial do Kwanza, à luz dos entrelaçamentos históricos e simbólicos entre culturas, religiões e sistemas escravocratas, tal como configurados nos conceitos de mundo atlântico, atlântico negro e grande Kalunga. O percurso investigativo parte da hipótese de que a institucionalização de uma expressão religiosa consonante com a trajetória de resistência do povo angolano constitui fator imprescindível na reconfiguração do espaço atlântico como território de emancipação. Propõe-se, assim, a leitura do Kwanza Metodista como espaço de síntese e tensão entre cultura, religião e escravismo, sob os olhares e testemunhos históricos de três figuras paradigmáticas: Rainha Njinga, enraizada no universo espiritual do grande Kalunga; John Wesley, sacerdote anglicano cuja consciência religiosa crítica o fez se juntar ao movimento abolicionista e William Taylor, bispo metodista cuja militância abolicionista orienta a ação missionária em Angola. Para isso, esta investigação propõe-se a estabelecer pontes interpretativas entre o mundo atlântico europeu e o universo espiritual do grande Kalunga africano, com vista a compreender as articulações históricas entre culturas, religiões e sistemas escravocratas. Analisa-se, nesse percurso, a ação de Rainha Njinga como resposta afrocentrada às dinâmicas imperiais, bem como se recontextualiza a figura de John Wesley enquanto pensador crítico das interseções entre fé cristã e escravismo. A tese demonstra ainda o compromisso abolicionista de William Taylor, evidenciando suas escolhas éticas e estratégicas na construção de um modelo missionário alternativo em território africano. Por fim, reconstrói-se o Kwanza Metodista como espaço de síntese entre espiritualidade, cultura e libertação, afirmando uma utopia enraizada na autonomia comunitária, na coigualdade e na valorização da identidade linguística angolana. Com recurso à hermenêutica narrativa de Gerhard von Rad, privilegiando a reactualização de relatos fundacionais como fontes de sentido e resistência, busca-se compreender como a esperança se mantém como força ativa na construção de alternativas éticas e espirituais às lógicas coloniais. Além disso serve a sua hermenêutica como inspiração para a estruturação dessa tese.
