Main Article Content
Abstract
This article proposes to present, from a historical perspective, the process of Christianization of the Kongo during the 17th century. The article discusses a period of great upheaval marked by socio-cultural conflicts between traditional culture and Christianity with the presence of Capuchin missionaries, notable for a profound dynamic that arose from a cohabitation in the difference between local traditional culture and Christian culture. The study aims to clarify the religious conflict between traditional culture and Christianity and to analyze how the latter influenced the former. A study was conducted of the events that marked the socio-cultural relations between the natives and the European missionaries.
