MOTHER TONGUE AND ETHNICITY AS FUNDAMENTAL PILLARS IN THE CONSTRUC-TION OF CULTURAL AND SOCIAL IDENTITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article discusses the theme of mother tongue and ethnicity as fundamental pillars in the construction of cultural and social identity. The reality of our country reveals that youth are experiencing a cultural identity crisis as a result of globalization, accelerated urbanization, gentrification, social and economic changes, and the lack of preservation policies from our government. Obviously, in culturally vulnerable societies like ours, these factors are promoting cultural homogenization, as local cultures are being replaced by dominant external influences, resulting in the loss of traditions and consequent cultural disorientation. The advancement of technology, embodied in the internet, artificial intelligence, and others, reinforces the distancing of young people from their cultural identity. It must be understood that multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages, which transmit and preserve knowledge and traditional cultures in a sustainable way.
